Sober Island Oysters @ The Annex
We’re very excited to host our friends from Sober Island Oysters.
Mark your calendars and make a plan to stop by for some of the most delicious oysters the Maritimes have to offer.
Proudly Nova Scotian
FIRST GENERATION OYSTER FARMERS
Born and raised in Sackville, Nova Scotia, Trevor grew up visiting Sober Island every year as a child. His love for the island led him to hatch a plan to live there full time – by growing oysters! He convinced his high school sweetheart and wife, Michelle, to give up their corporate jobs as an engineer and administrator to become first generation oyster farmers in 2005. Together with their two young children they moved to Sober Island and started their adventure.
The learning curve was steep, but almost two decades later Sober Island Oysters are the oyster of choice in restaurants and homes in Nova Scotia and beyond.
The team at Sober Island Oysters are passionate about sustainability and the positive impact that oysters make to the ocean ecosystem. They partner with Dalhousie University to conduct research in aquaculture.

Nine Original recordings and many years later, Kim has returned to her Native Nova Scotia where she has reconnected with her roots while working on her 10th full studio album, “My New Old Hometown”.

DIY Comedy Tour
The DIY Comedy tour is 3 pals (Scott, Frank & Mike) who've fudged together this epic cross Canada stand-up comedy tour!
$20 per ticket OR $35 for two
But who are we really?
Scott Porteous - Scott is one of Canada's youngest comedy veterans. He’s not even 40 and has already been performing stand-up comedy for nearly 20 years. Some of Scott's accolades include performing at The Winnipeg Comedy Festival, The World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas and most recently had his alter-ego featured on Canada's Got Talent. Scott's style of comedy is quick, and quirky, with a hybrid of intelligent and just plain dumb jokes. Scott is very awkward but in a charming way... he thinks. Scott's alter-ego, Herbert Henries, is the one-and-only “Comedy Dangerist” in the world! Most likely because he also invented “Comedy Dangerism”. To put it simply, Herbert performs “Acts of Danger” while telling jokes. Herbert has been in and around comedy for less than a year and has already left his mark on Canadian Comedy. Herbert recently performed in front of the judges at Canada's Got Talent and was told by Howie Mandel that he is "Winnipeg's greatest comedy export". Whether it be by his unique “dangerist-stunts”, his jokes or his awkward yet endearing personality, Herbert Henries is the definition of the phrase “one of a kind”.
Frank Russo - Frank has the unique ability to take the mundane and drag it into the absurd. Having performed in comedy clubs and indie shows across Canada for over 9 years, Frank uses his charm, quick wit and intelligent
humour to connect with audiences from all walks of life. Now based in Calgary, Frank has previously produced and hosted weekly comedy shows in Toronto and Halifax, performed in festivals including Sudbury Laugh Out Loud festival, The World Series of Comedy, The Thunder Bay Comedy Festival, and was a featured act in The Human Condition Cross-Canada Comedy Tour in 2019.
Mike Payne - Mike has been a key-player in the Toronto Comedy Scene for 6 years and has toured most of North America and Edinburgh (Scotland). Mike has worked with Yuk Yuks, Absolute Comedy, Rick Bronson’s The Comic Strip and runs his acclaimed monthly show; The Stand-Up Show with Mike Payne at the world famous Comedy Bar. Mike has worked with acclaimed acts including Rick Mercer, Jeremy Hotz, Ali Siddiq, Simon Rakoff, Martha Chaves, Casey Corbin, Jason Rouse, Tyler Morrison and Aaron Berg. Mike has also appeared in festivals including The Cottage Country Comedy Festival, The Dirty Bird Comedy Festival, The Brantford Comedy Festival and was a winner of the Gemini Comedy Festival along side Al Val. Mike is most commonly recognized from his appearance in Burger King’s Impossible Whopper commercial (National Campaign, 2021) as the “that’s pretty good” guy.

Nadine and Sammy
$20 +taxes per ticket. Available on Eventbrite.ca or at The Annex.
Nadine Landry and Stephen “Sammy” Lind are members of the internationally acclaimed Foghorn Stringband, out of Portland, Oregon, USA. They play traditional fiddle music that has been passed on for hundreds of years, classics of the south west Louisiana Cajun dance halls and songs that could have filled a 50s smoky bar jukebox.
Nadine Landry was born and raised in a musical family on the Gaspe Peninsula on the east coast of Quebec. Equally comfortable on guitar and upright bass, she has leant her talents to various bands ranging from old time to honky tonk to swing and Cajun. Described as deeply passionate and powerful, her voice has been capturing the hearts of fans across North America, Ireland, England, Scandinavia and Australia.
Born in Minnesota, Stephen “Sammy” Lind has established himself as one of the most critically acclaimed old time fiddle players in the country. Co-founder of the Oregon based Foghorn Stringband, Stephen has traveled the world playing and teaching a vast repertoire of tunes from Appalachia and the Midwest. His playing reflects tremendous respect and passion for all the fiddle players and old recordings he spent countless hours learning from.
Together they play fiddle tunes, early country and Cajun songs. Their new recording “Granddad’s Favorite” reflects their versatility in genres and instrumentation. Alternating between fiddle, banjo, guitar and accordion, they play true to the roots of American music with energy and respect. They are members of the Foghorn Stringband, the Dirk Powell Band and play with Cajun extraordinaires Jesse Lege, Joel Savoy and the Cajun Country Revival and have collaborated with Alice Gerrard, Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum and Tim O’Brien.

Sunday Sessions: Rob Murphy
Live Music every Sunday afternoon in the off-season. Come get cozy by the fire with us.
Rob Murphy is a Singer / Songwriter from Cape Breton Island and is known for his raspy vocals and heart on the sleeve lyrics. Rob's raspy weathered vocal style can easily show influences from the likes of Johnny Reid, Jason Isbel, Blue Rodeo and The Band.
Originating from the small town of New Waterford, Rob began playing guitar at the age of 10 and writing in his early teens at around 14. Songwriting and storytelling is strong in Rob’s family roots with a strong history of Songwriting and Storytelling.
Songwriting has always come naturally for Rob, he has the ability to create songs that listeners can easily relate to whether fiction or reality you’ll be wondering if a song came from real life experiences or the thoughts of a natural Storyteller. On the heels of his 2019 releases "O'lala", "You" and "Ghosts" Rob has released his new Single “Tell Me To Stay” a beautiful heartfelt duet with Canadian Rocker Carmen Townsend and "It'll Be Alright" with Sarah Harralson.
